Smoked Dr. Pepper Ribs Recipe

Smoked Dr. Pepper Ribs

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 2 racks baby back ribs

  • 1 (2 liter) bottle Dr. Pepper cola

  • 1 tablespoon canola oil

  • 1⁄2 medium onion, minced

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1⁄2 cup ketchup

  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar

  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 1⁄4 cup salt

  • 1⁄8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Directions

  1. Place the ribs in a big baking dish. Pour in Dr. Pepper and foil cover them, save at least 1/2 cup for the sauce. Add salt and soak the ribs in fridge over night.

  2. Heat the oven to 375°F Remove the ribs, dry and cover with the chili powder. Put ribs back in a baking dish, add 1 cup of water, and cover tightly with foil. Grill or Cook for 2 1/2 hours, until the meat falls off the bone.

  3. BBQ Sauce: Place the oil in saucepan over normal heat. Cook the garlic and onions till they're tender and aromatic; then add ketchup, cayenne, vinegar, worcestershire, cayenne and 1/2 cup of Dr. Pepper. Low heat for 15 to 20 minutes until it thickens.

  4. Start the grill and brush with sauce. When the BBQ is hot, grill them bone down on a cooler area of grill for 15 to 20 minutes. Turn them and grill until charred and smoky.
